Holger Krug
Holger Krug was born in Markkleeberg (Saxony) in 1962. From 1979 to 1981, he trained as a skilled worker in chemical production. Krug then worked as a care assistant in Leipzig.
On 1st September 1985, Krug attempted to flee to Turkey via Bulgaria. He was arrested and initially detained in Bulgaria. He was subsequently remanded in custody in Leipzig.
On 23rd December 1985, the Leipzig-Mitte District Court sentenced him to one year and five months in prison and transferred him to Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz). He was released by the Federal Republic of Germany on 2nd July 1986. He then lived in Berlin-Wedding and worked as a chemical technician.
He has been guiding groups of visitors through the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial since 2017.
