Our programmes

The Memorial's programmes offer schoolchildren and adults an in-depth insight into the history of the site and the political imprisonment and persecution in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and the GDR. In addition to guided tours we offer seminars, further training and discussions with contemporary witnesses for various target groups in german language. Our contemporary witness archive, collection and library are open to researcher for their research.

History

The Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial is located on a site that is linked to the 44-year history of political persecution in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and the GDR and is like no other in Germany. Political opponents of the regime were imprisoned here from 1945 to 1989.
